Swimming 2008

2008 Season in review

The John Pratt Trophy
Awarded to Viking Pool, the team that finished with the most points in ALPS Swimming Finals (results).

Congratulations to Viking swimmers and coaches!

As well, Viking Pool did a really great job of hosting the Finals and Consols meet. Many thanks to all of the pool staff and parent volunteers for all of their hard work in organizing and hosting a super meet.

And a big thank you to all of the officials who worked at the meet and to the city of Pointe-Claire for all of their contributions to the day.
The Montreal West Trophy
Awarded to the team accumulating the most points in the ALPS Consolation Finals (results)- Cedar Park Pool

The John Finn Trophy
Awarded to the team with the highest accumulated points in the 10 and Under events in ALPS Finals (results) (not including the Consolation Finals)
- Windermere Pool

Many thanks to all of the ALPS reps, officials and volunteers who made 2008 another successful year for ALPS swimming.

A large number of long-standing records for swimming were broken this year, as ALPS swimmers, just like this year's Olympic swimmers, swim ever faster. Check here for the updated ALPS all-time records in metres pools.

Congratulations to CAVIP, Valois and Western Lachine pools for winning their respective Section Finals this year.
For those who are interested, 2008 Section Finals were held in meters pools without the use of starting blocks.
Finals
will be held at Viking, a meters pool with diving blocks.

Dual Meet Results 2008

Updated Excel spreadsheet for scoring ALPS dual swim meets

August 1st, 2008 - Bob Cox has responded to input from the users of the electronic scoresheet and has made a number of improvements to it. The new features are described on the scoresheet page where you can download version 2.0. Please delete any previous versions.

IF YOU WILL BE USING THE SCORESHEET AT A MEET, PLEASE READ THROUGH THE INFORMATION BOB HAS PROVIDED. ALPS REPS AND SCORERS ARE ADVISED TO PRINT OUT THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ITS INSTALLATION AND TAKE IT TO THE POOL ON THE NIGHT OF THE MEET.

If you have any questions, you can email Bob Cox, who created the scoresheet, and CC Ross Fraser, ALPS Director of Swimming.

Swimming Rules for ALPS

Note: ALPS start and stroke rules are not identical to those of SNC - Swimming Natation Canada.

The ALPS rules governing the start of a race and those for each stroke can be downloaded on the News page - in the ALPS Rules 2007. You can also view the FINA swim rules for 2005-2009 with additional notes indicating where ALPS rules differ. Swimmers will be judged by these rules at Dual Meets, Section Finals and Finals, and all meets will be run according to these rules. All officials, swim team coaches, swimmers and their families should read and be familiar with these swimming rules.

For complete fairness, everybody should be applying the same set of rules
.
