Job board

ALPS provides a place on this webpage for pools to advertise open positions they may have for the upcoming season. Any ALPS pool may contact the webmaster with their job information and contact info.

Unfortunately, we cannot list staff looking for positions but many ALPS pools have websites through which applications may be submitted, and the ALPS webmaster may be contacted for the email address of an ALPS pool.

Cedar Park Pool is now accepting applications for all levels for the 2009 summer season. Interested candidates should send their CV to: president@cedarparkpool.ca

The Baie d'Urfe Aquatic Club  is now accepting applications for lifeguard positions at all levels for the 2009 summer season. Interested candidates should send their CV to:  president@bdac.ca

2008 President's Cup Winner

Each year, the president of ALPS awards a trophy in recognition of the volunteer within ALPS whose unselfish contribution of time, talent and dedication will never be forgotten.

This year's recipient is Tom McKenzie of Lakeside pool. Here's what Don Norris, the 2008 ALP president, had to say about Tom as he presented him with the trophy at the ALPS Swimming Finals on Saturday, August 16th.

"Tom has lent his tireless volunteer hand to serve the Lakeside Swimming Club since the early 1980s.  For more than 25 years, Tom has served on the Lakeside Board of Directors.  Highlights include terms as Co-President in 1996 and 1997, and as the Club President from 1997 to 2006, inclusive.

Tom is a true Lakeside advocat, a leader and a consensus builder who knows the Lakeside operation from top to bottom.  He understands the benefit and limitation of their small membership base, and focuses on the value proposition they offer their members, young and old.  Tom recruited and led many skilled Executive members to enhance the
Lakeside member's experience.

Though Tom is known primarily for his leadership, organizational and administrative skills, he will do any job.  Tom always answers the call to officiate at Swim Meets, BBQ, paint the pool, string trim the lawn and make Costco trips for supplies, etc.  Tom is the model Lakeside enthusiast and booster.  He can be seen at most aquatic sports events to support the Lakeside participants.

To summarize, Tom McKenzie is the face of Lakeside Swimming Club. Think of him as "Mr. Lakeside", but call him Tom for short."

ALPS trophies - a bit of history

Erik Bedard, the past president of ALPS, has spent quite a lot of time putting together this list of all ALPS trophy winners.

We seem to be missing some winners in each discipline and we could use your help.

If your club has records and could help fill in the gaps, it would be very helpful. Please email Erik with any input you may be able to provide.

Annual General Meeting 2009

ALPS Events in 2009

The Bidding Meeting took place on Wednesday, October 1st. A vote was taken for the hosting of each of the ALPS events for 2009.

Please see our Events page for a list of the competitions, the dates they will be held, and the pools that will be hosting them.

If you're looking for a way to get involved in your summer pool, why not get in touch and offer your help to organize or help out at the event your pool will be hosting. There are many jobs at each event and lots of volunteers are needed.

ALPS 2008 RULE BOOK

Over the past few years, the ALPS rules for all four disciplines were combined into one document. In 2006, the process was completed, with the rules re-numbered and/or re-ordered within their discipline, and many with revised wording [with no change to their meaning]. Each year, each pool will receive one printed copy but anyone can download and print a copy.
Just click here for the 2008 version (pdf format).
ALPS COMPLAINT PROCEDURE
Based on feedback from our annual wrap-up meeting in the fall of 2006, we have developed a formalized complaint procedure to be used when the actions or behaviour of an individual or team is not acceptable according to the ALPS Code of Conduct. It defines the individuals to contact at each step and the maximum time delay for each step.
ALPS CODE OF CONDUCT

This is a written contract between parents, participants, and coaches to abide by the rules and regulations of their sport, as well as to maintain a cooperative attitude and to uphold the ideals of fair play and sportsmanship. This contract is more than just paper; it is the essence of the ALPS philosphy and so it's important that all children, parents, and coaches read this document, understand it, and, if they choose to participate in ALPS-organized, inter-club competitions, that they agree to uphold its principles.

The ALPS Code of Conduct is available in both English and French at the end of the rule book file.
